When Behavior Meets Discipline: What Parents Need to Know
👉 “Sometimes we don’t realize how powerful we are… until we have to stand up for our children.”
Families of children with disabilities often face difficult situations when behavior and school discipline intersect. This session is designed to help parents better understand how disability impacts behavior, what protections exist within school systems, and how to respond with clarity and strategy.
Purpose
This training supports caregivers in reducing stress and confusion by providing clear, practical guidance on navigating school discipline processes while protecting their child’s rights and well-being.
In this session, you will learn:
How to understand behavior within the context of disability
What a Manifestation Determination Review (MDR) is and when it applies
How to use your district’s Student Code of Conduct
How to avoid mislabeling and protect your child’s rights
How to respond strategically instead of reactively

🧠 Taller: Discapacidad y Disciplina – Protege a tu Hijo con Estrategia
Cuando un niño con discapacidad enfrenta disciplina en la escuela, no todo es tan simple como parece. Muchas veces, el comportamiento está relacionado con necesidades no atendidas, y existen protecciones legales que las familias deben conocer.
En este taller, exploraremos de forma clara y práctica:
Cómo interpretar el comportamiento dentro del contexto de la discapacidad
Qué es una revisión de manifestación (MDR) y cuándo aplica
Cómo usar el código de conducta del distrito a tu favor
Qué preguntas hacer y cómo documentar situaciones
Cómo responder con calma y estrategia en momentos difíciles
