Academy of Powerful Parents
The Academy of Powerful Parents is an interactive, 18-hour training program that activates and equips parents and caregivers to take an active role in their children’s education and school community. Through structured sessions, meaningful activities, and at-home assignments, participants strengthen their skills, expand their knowledge, and gain the confidence to partner effectively with teachers and school leaders.
Our goal is to help families become engaged, informed, and collaborative partners in building a positive learning environment for all students.
Program Structure
The Academy runs in two semesters each year — Spring (February–May) and Fall (August–December) — and features nine intensive classes combining interactive instruction, group discussions, and practical exercises.
Unleash Your Potential – Building your “why” and mastering effective communication during Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC).
Testing Essentials – Understanding STAAR, MAP, Lexile levels, and interpreting TEA school ratings.
Leadership Empowerment – Participating in school committees and understanding Title I opportunities for families.
Becoming a School Partner – Skills to support school initiatives and student learning.
Navigating School Choice – Exploring education options and enrollment processes.
Amplify Your Voice – Public speaking and sharing your story in constructive, school-supportive ways.
Monitoring Progress – Using PTCs and other tools to track and support student growth.
Building Community – Connecting with other parents to strengthen school culture.
Graduate & Next Steps – Graduates presentations, celebrating achievements and planning continued engagement.
Hands-On Learning
Participants complete homework and reflection activities between sessions to apply what they’ve learned in real-world settings—such as practicing PTC strategies, exploring school performance reports, or connecting with other parents to share resources.
Impact: Since 2020, over 600 graduates have completed the Academy, many going on to become active school volunteers, family liaisons, and trusted leaders in building strong school-family partnerships.

Our Fellowship creates a safe community to have difficult conversations. Our parents tell their stories, giving words to the injustices their children face. Through our advocacy training, parents learn to challenge the status quo and the systems that have been created to deny our children their right to a quality education.
