When Behavior Meets Discipline: What Parents Need to Know

👉 “Sometimes we don’t realize how powerful we are… until we have to stand up for our children.”

Families of children with disabilities often face difficult situations when behavior and school discipline intersect. This session is designed to help parents better understand how disability impacts behavior, what protections exist within school systems, and how to respond with clarity and strategy.

Purpose

This training supports caregivers in reducing stress and confusion by providing clear, practical guidance on navigating school discipline processes while protecting their child’s rights and well-being.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to understand behavior within the context of disability

  • What a Manifestation Determination Review (MDR) is and when it applies

  • How to use your district’s Student Code of Conduct

  • How to avoid mislabeling and protect your child’s rights

  • How to respond strategically instead of reactively
