From Recognition to Responsibility: Continuing the Work for Families

This week, I was honored to be featured in the San Antonio Express-News as one of the city’s fiercest education advocates.

But the story behind that recognition isn’t about titles or visibility.

It’s about what happens when a parent learns to navigate a system that was never built with them in mind and refuses to stay quiet.

At MindShiftED, we were created out of necessity.

Because too many families « especially those raising children with disabilities and those navigating language barriers » were left to figure things out on their own.

No clear guidance.
No consistent communication.
No true partnership.

“My goal is not to exist.”

Because if education systems truly worked for all families,
organizations like MindShiftED wouldn’t be necessary.

THE REALITY WE ARE FACING

Right now, we are seeing major shifts across our education systems.

School closures.
Consolidations.
Changes in leadership and direction.

And families are asking the questions that matter most:

  • Where will my child be supported?

  • Who will listen to our concerns?

  • Can I trust this system to meet my child’s needs?

These are not small questions.
They are decisions that shape the future of our children and our communities.

A SHIFT IS HAPPENING

Parents are no longer navigating alone.

They are learning their rights.
They are asking better questions.
They are showing up in decision-making spaces.

And they are no longer waiting for systems to change on their own.

Over the past several years, MindShiftED has supported thousands of families many of whom are Spanish-speaking and navigating special education systems for the first time.

This work is growing because the need is still there.

🤝 FOR FAMILIES VISITING THIS PAGE

If you are a parent navigating the school system « especially if you feel overwhelmed or unsure where to start » you are not alone.

WHAT THIS MOMENT MEANS

Recognition brings visibility, but it also brings responsibility.

Because the truth is:

This work continues because families are still being overlooked.

But there is also hope.

Parents are becoming more informed, more connected, and more confident.

And when that happens systems don’t just change.

Communities transform.
